Settling a Rabbit or Guinea Pig for a Short Trip
By Pet Carrier Team · 10 July 2026 · 3 min read
Rabbits and guinea pigs are creatures of routine, so any change, including travel, can be unsettling if you do not prepare a little in advance. The good news is that small adjustments can make a noticeable difference.
Line the base of the carrier with familiar bedding from their usual home, along with a small handful of hay, so the space smells reassuringly like home rather than new and unfamiliar. Avoid cleaning the carrier too thoroughly right before travel for the same reason.
Keep the journey as smooth and quiet as you reasonably can. Sudden stops, loud music or a lot of handling along the way tend to raise stress levels more than the travel itself.
For longer trips, check whether your pet may need access to water or extra ventilation, and always keep the carrier out of direct sunlight in a warm car.
